Maximum power generation can be very massive. But car builders refrain from doing that because if you go for the maximum an engine can deliver, you will have to compromise drastically on lifespan, operating and production cost for both collateral or direct. Due to higher power, your supply chain options become limited and your product which was originally made to sell ends up sitting on the shelf because the car does not hit the targeted market.

1.5L Cosworth engines were doing 1200bhp in the 1980s with the right design and force induction. What's more with the existing Evo engines. The question is... how much are you willing part for that power? It boils back to... do you even need that? Or will that be eventually a bloody white elephant?

more bhp is useless if your car cant stick to the road.

Safe limit 400hp + / - . Depend on tune, bolt ons, and supporting mods also. Just my 2cents.
